Frequently Asked Questions - Armourdog Tablet Kiosks & Stands
Q: Do I have full access to the tablet on/off button on the edge of my tablet when choosing the LocPad kiosk?
A: The locpad enclosure is sealed shut with a lock and the enclosure does not have any access holes, except for the charging cable out the back/rear of the unit. If you need access to on off buttons, pop to our webpage HERE for a different product range that allows this.
Q: Does the LocPad allow access to the rear camera?
A: The locpad does not allow access to the rear camera. You have options to select whether you would like access to the front camera or have it covered. If you wish to have access to the rear camera please look at our Modloc range of tablet stands which can be found HERE. You can select your tablet of choice from the drop down menu, once you know which stand style you prefer.
Q: Do you sell locking floor stands kiosks? We are looking for an iPad Exhibition Floor Stand.
A: The armourdog LocPad range has the option of a free standing floor or fixed floor solution. Just select the tablet from the product range and uses the drop down menu to select one of the two floor mounting solutions.
Q: Do you sell self-checkout tablet solutions?
A: The armourdog LocPad & ModLoc range provide a big range of solutions from free standing flexible, clamp stands, wall tablet kiosks & floor stading tablet holders. Just select the tablet from the product range and uses the drop down menu to select which solution works best. If you need more information, give us a call or send an email and we're always happy to provide support based around your requirements.
Q: I’m installing the LocPad onto a wall. How will the internal charging cable come out of the back of the enclosure?
A: Please review the website or the PDF to explore the many wall options to decide how close you wish to install the LocPad to the wall. The low profile wall mount is the closest to the wall (and is the actual wall fitting kit itself) & if you chose any other neck you will need the mounting kit. This is a preconfigured option when buying your Locpad via the website. Please note once the cable comes out of the Locpad at the bottom/end of the neck, you will need to decide which direction the cable runs up / down / sideways from the locpad to enable the cable to link up with the AC power supply (using the USB-type A port). There is a hole in the mounting kit which you can see HERE, this is where the cable feeds out from. Make sure you have a long enough cable!
Q: What do I need to consider when buying a tablet stand?
A: There are some key factors to consider, the main focus will be the location or environment and this in turn which will affect another key factor, that of security. From a practal point of view you want to consider the users, so adjustability, height comes into this, aesthetics, sturdiness and upgradability. How easy is it to upgrade so that it can work with other tablets and therefore have a much longer life span. Creating amazing cost saving benefits over the life time of the kiosk.
Q: We have purchased a desk solution but now realise it needs to be installed on the wall, we are happy with the 45 degree neck purchased.
A: No problem, pop to LocPad accessories on the main locpad drop down menu. Here you’ll find the mounting kit separately HERE, which you can buy to retro fit onto your Locpad.
Please note once the cable comes out of the Locpad, you will need to decide which direction the cable runs up / down / sideways from the locpad to enable the cable to link up with the AC power supply (using the USB-type A port). Make sure you have a long enough cable!
Q: Does your Locpad product arrive pre built?
A: No. The tablet needs to sit inside the enclosure so you will be provided with a minimum of 5 items to build the product. These are the enclosure (white mix of metal and plastic, with a lock and key) the neck and screws or the neck and mounting kit. Then you have the fixing kits, which fit into the rear of the enclsoure for the tablet to sit on. Once the tablet is in the enclosure. The final item is an acrylic faceplate, which is often covered in a brown tape. Please remove the brown tape on one side. This rests on the tablet and will ensure either that the front camera is covered or exposed depending on your order details. Its that simple!
Q: Does your ModLoc product arrive pre built?
A: The ModLoc product consists of two parts, one the mounting device, which could be wall, ultraflex, clamp, desk or pole. Then the second item is the enclosure which will contain the tablet. The enclosures are different in size for each tablet.
Q: Do all your products come with integrated cabling?
A: The ModLoc and LocPad products are designed to have integrated cabling in most arrangements. The ModLoc varies sightly depending on the mounting option but we've put pictures on the website to help you understand. If you need more information please call (+441296707101) or email us (sales@armourdog.com).
Q: Can you provide a cheap tablet stand?
A: Oh gosh! At armourdog.com we like to call them affordable :) we've got a brilliant range of robust desk stands that are simple and effective and they don't cost the earth! Have a look at our variable size tablet stands HERE. We've got something for every budget.
Q: Do I need a mounting kit for my LocPad?
A: The mounting kit allows you to secure the LocPad to a wall or desk without having to drill all the way through the surface to the other side. For all the wall options the LocPad will come with a wall mounting kit as standard. This is because you could not connect to the wall without it. The desk installation is specific to circumstances. It might be that the desk is too thick or too thin to work with the standard screws that we supply. In which case the mounting kit helps you overcome that difficulty and you don't have to screw through the entire depth of the surface in question.
Q: How do I install the wall mounting kit for my LocPad?
A: Please download the detailed instructions via the website support tab. You will find a simple schematic drawing HERE of the hole layout to guide you. Please make sure to read the instructions HERE first before drilling. Oh and make sure you’ve tested the wall with a scanner/sensor to make sure you’re not making a hole where you shouldn’t! NOTE: once the cable comes out of the Locpad, you will need to decide which direction the cable runs up / down / sideways from the locpad to enable the cable to link up with the AC power supply (using the USB-type A port)
Q: My tablet only comes with a 90cm long cable , its not long enough to reach the wall socket?
A: We have a variety of 3 meter cables in white and black. Just make sure to choose the right connection. Most tablets these days are connecting/charging using a USB-Type C. See the image HERE for help in selecting the correct cable. Or check your tablet user manual.
Q: My Lenovo tablet comes with a large adapter fitted along the charging cable. Does this fit into the enclosure too?
A: There is not enough room for the adapter as well as the tablet, so you’ll have to buy a new longer type C charging cable which will connect to a USB port.
Q: My Lenovo tablet has an on/off button on the side. How do we avoid users and staff messing with the configuration or set up of the tablet?
A: Most tablets when on charge, will remain on. However some tablets will not, you need to consider this because the LocPad does not allow you access to on/off buttons unless you open the entire solution. Which you don't want to do several times a day. Modern tablets will often come with a Kiosk Mode setting. You can activate this to support day to day use of your software and avoid staff or customers accessing the actual tablet data. Some tablets will require you to download Kiosk Software. We aren't able to promote any particular solution but some options are free and some are paid for solutions. You really need to understand your users and the environment the kiosk is going into, to know which solution is going to be best for you.
Nowadays even Chrome offers a kiosk mode, turning you screen into a single-use window and doesn't allow any user access to othe screens besides the application its set to.
There are security settings for Android tablets - using free apps that mimic Guided Access or Assigned Access mode. You can look up SureLock, Kiosk Browser Lockdown or Kioware.
Q: How do we keep our Android tablet live and on show and usable if we cannot access the on/off button?
There are security settings for Android tablets - using free apps that mimic Guided Access or Assigned Access mode. You can look up SureLock, Kiosk Browser Lockdown or Kioware.
There is a hidden setting on Android that allows you to keep the screen on indefinately PROVIDING your tablet is on charge. This is critical to the effective use of the locpad solution. You need to active a mode called "Developer" . You'll find this in Settings but there are many guides for instance this one HERE
Q: My iPad has an on/off button on the side. How do we avoid users and staff messing with the configuration or set up of the tablet and how does that even work if we cannot access it?
Nowadays even Chrome offers a kiosk mode, turning you screen into a single-use window and doesn't allow any user access to othe screens besides the application its set to.
However, Apple users with IOS 11 can use the "Guided Access" feature. Set this up BEFORE you put your device into the locpad/modloc enclosures. You'll find this under Settings > General > Accessibility > On. You have to set up a six digit code. Choose carefully! Go back to the home screen and open up the app that you need your staff/ team/customers to use. Triple click the home button so that he Guided Access Screen appears and then press start. More information can be found on the Apple website HERE.
Q: My Windows tablet has an on/off button on the side. How do we avoid users and staff messing with the configuration or set up of the tablet and how does that even work if we cannot access it?
Nowadays even Chrome offers a kiosk mode, turning you screen into a single-use window and doesn't allow any user access to othe screens besides the application its set to.
Since the launch of Windows 8 operating system the Assigned Access feature gives you greater control. You can find out all about how to use this feature HERE. Whilst signed in to Assigned Access all hardware keys and other touch guestures will be automatically disabled.
Q: I’d like my desk stand to swivel round so that the customer and our staff can see the screen at different times in the sales interaction. How can I achieve this?
A: Please do ask your team to have a look at the installation guide HERE as you may need a mounting kit if you are desk fitting. If you don’t need a mounting kit, you can absolutely fit the rotating desk base. Youll find the item online HERE and the installation is very simple, the guide is HERE.
Q: How do I install the LocPad rotating desk base?
A: Full instructions can be downloaded via the support tab linked to the rotating desk product listing on the website. Or HERE for quick reference.
Q: Can I use the rotating base without having to screw into my new reception desk?
A: We have this product HERE, this is a base that sits on the surface and it allows for the charging cable to feed through the main mounting tube/neck and the rotating base sits on top of this metal plate. Nice comfy padded stick pads are provided. This is an accessory to the main locpad. It will not work without the main locpad being purchased as well, either at the time, or as an after purchase accessory.
Q: What options do I have if I don’t want to screw my kiosk into place?
A: If you do not wish to screw the stand into a surface, you would need to select the free standing desk base for the Locpad kiosk product range. You can find this HERE.
If you are looking at the Modloc range of products, I would suggest using either the Clamp or the Ultraflex as these do not require screwing into the surface. For the Ultraflex product the stand is really weighty and provides enough downforce to deal with most day to day activies by staff in cafe's, shops or reception areas. For areas where the general public are in charge, I would screw your stand down just to be safe in the knowledge its not going to accidentially get knocked over.
For the Modloc range just choose your tablet from the drop down menu under Tablet Mounts & Kiosks or click HERE. Its best to look at all 5 options then once you select the product you can chose from all the different tablet options covering Samsung, Apple iPad & Microsoft Surface. Do this using the drop down menu.
Q: Do your tablet counter stands / secure tablet kiosks work in portrait mode and landscape?
A: Yes the do. The armourdog LocPad and ModLoc ranges have this feature.
Q: I'm not sure which orientation I will need for the tablet. The software we use is normally in portrait orientation?
A: If you wish to keep the tablet in either the portrait or landscape orientation you can make this decision at the point of installation. However, if you wish to switch between both orientations, when the tablet is installed, you would need the landscape / portrait switch. You can find this under locpad accessories, or HERE. This module attaches between the back of the enclosure and the top of the neck (for example the top of the 45 degree neck). It does not impact or impeed the internal charging cable route.
Q: What if we find out the tablet we have purchased doesn’t work with our software after installation? We've been advised to replace the original, with another manufacturers tablet.
A: Please don’t worry, things happen! Once the unit is installed we just need to replace two items; the fixing kits (the pads the tablet sits on) and the acrylic faceplate. These two items can be swapped over at no extra cost within the first 30 days of purchase.
After this replacement parts can be purchased via the website under locpad accessories link HERE
Please remember to order both items (faceplate and fit kit) for the replacement tablet.
Q: We have owned our LocPad for 4 years now and we wish to replace the tablet inside, can you help?
A: Replacement parts can be purchased via the website under locpad accessories page, or see this link HERE.
Please remember to order both items (faceplate and fit kit) for the new tablet. If you are going from an 8” tablet to a 10” , or from a 10” to 12” tablet this solution is not available to you. The enclosures only support tablets within the same dimensional range. Our smallest enclosure fits the 7-9" tablet range, the next one is 9-11" and the largest covers the 12" range of tablets. Q: We have owned our LocPad for 6 years now and we wish to replace the tablet inside, but we will be replacing an 8” tablet with a 11” version. What do we need to buy to update our kiosk?
A: In this instance you will need to purchase a new enclosure, along with fixing kit and faceplate. This usually costs around £50 plus VAT (pricing as of Jan 2025) everything else can remain in situ and be reused. Wonderful for the planet, a heap less wastage and saves you pennies too! Please contact us directly for this option as its not available via the website.

A: Our ModLoc range comes in a choice of black or white. The LocPad solution comes in white from stock. For bulk orders we can produce in black but there is a production time frame to consider.
Q: What are the main benefits of the LocPad product range over the ModLoc product range?
A: This is going to be tablet specific as the ModLoc range only covers recent Samsung & iPad tablets. The Locpad solutions covers a huge variety of tablets old and new. It also includes Microsoft Surface solutions and Lenovo tablets too. The product is made with a mix of plastics and steel and has a more ergonomic feel. Its also kind to the planet as you upgrade it each year to suit your ever changing tablet upgrades. It only requires a small upgrade costing around £16 (price accurate as of Jan 2025) to allow you to move from one tablet to the next.
Q: I've purchased a tablet from Amazon and its almost identical in size to the Samsung or Lenovo. Can I fit it into these enclosures?
A: This is going to be tablet specific but please check with us first! In 99% of cases, its just not going to fit! Every manufacturer builds tablets with different thickness, location of camers, on/off buttons, screen dimensions, screen bezel sizes. These all vary , regardless of whether the tablet is possibly mm different from a major manufacturer. Quick answer = No!
Q: What are the main benefits of the ModLoc product range over the LocPad product range?
A: This is going to be tablet specific as the ModLoc range only covers recent Samsung & iPad tablets. So if you've got a tablet that is covered by this solution, you're a benefiting from having access to the rear camera and secondly you're getting an enclosure which is completely made of powder coated steel.
Q: Does the ModLoc stands allow access to the rear camera?
A: This is going to be tablet specific. But most of our current range of ModLoc enclosures do have rear camera exposure to allow the use of the rear facing camera. Please do check specifics on the website for up to date tablet related specifications.
Q: Does the ModLoc stands allow access to the front camera?

A: This is going to be tablet specific. But most of our current range of ModLoc enclosures do NOT give access to the on/off button.
Q: I have a bracket from a previous installation, which is connected to our restaurant kitchen wall. I need a new enclosure for the new tablet. Will your enclosures fit on the existing stand?
A: For this we need to understand the hole configuration of the existing bracket. In most instances this hole configuration will be covered by the VESA format.
If you locate the 4 mounting holes on your existing bracket. Measure the distance between the centres of the holes, in mm. The VESA hole patterns include 75mm x 75mm or 100mm x 100mm. If the existing bracket has this configuration our ModLoc and our LocPad enclosures will fit. We can offer a solution without a mounting bracket (to reduce your expenditure) so that you can attach our enclosure to your bracket. Speak to our office team for further advice (tel +441296707101).
Q: Do you have an enclosure for LocPad with pre cut 75mm VESA hole configuration?
A: Yes we do! Please note this isn't a standard product that you can purchase via the website, but we hold stock of precut enclosures with the 75mm VESA configuration. These are around £40+ VAT (price accurate as of Jan 2025).
Q: Can you provide a solution to hold a printer to the floor standing LocPad?
A: We can provide a printer holder. The printer arm does have to be designed around each printer as they often have different hole configurations. Providing you can send us a picture / measurement / pdf of the configuration we can adapt our printer holder for your LocPad stand. Ideal for printing visitor badges, tempory staff passes. This works well if you are runnig the printer over bluetooth. We don't currently have an in stock version which has cable mangement for the printer as well.
