Android 12L Update – Multitasking made easier

Often left behind, with smartphones taking Android’s main priority, the 12L update has slowly been rolled out throughout the past year – with Pixel devices receiving back in March 2022, with the rollout ramping up in recent weeks to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8, Tab S8 Plus and Tab S8 Ultra.

The update has optimized the UI for large screens, made multitasking easier and more powerful, and improved app compatibility support, taking the user experience to the next level. The update is good news not just for users, but also developers who begin to think more about developing with the tablet experience in mind.

Optimal for large screens

Android is now optimal for larger screens, impacting notifications, settings, lock screen, overview, home screen, app interfaces and more.

Multitasking in mind

Multitasking on android tablets is now a lot easier to do, with a new taskbar allowing users to drag and drop apps into a split-screen mode, making it ideal for anyone taking notes, going through morning emails or just exploring features in a bit more detail.

Improved compatibility experience

The update has brought in visual and stability improvements, providing the user with a sharper image, and giving them that finer level of detail always desired.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 vs S8 Ultra

With the update recently being released across Samsung tablet devices, many people will be looking to upgrade.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8

Available from £649, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 is the most lightweight tablet in the S8 line, weighing just 1.1lb and sizing at 9.99″ x 6.51″ x 0.25″, making it very easy to hold and ideal for portability, even with the keyboard cover attached.

Compared to other high-end tablets, the Tab S8 stands firm as a premium choice that combines a market-leading battery life of around 13 hours with an easy-to-use interface, that is benefited greatly by the bright and beautiful on-screen display. Whilst the performance and display don’t quite match up to newer iPad devices, it is ideal for android users either seeking an affordable laptop replacement or a secondary device for notetaking and lounge entertainment.

Samsung Tab S8 Plus

Available from £849, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus shares many of the specifications as the standard S8 tablet including the same front and rear-facing camera resolutions, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of starting storage and 45W fast charging. Where the S8 Plus differs, however, is having a larger screen (11.22″ x 7.28″ x 0.22″) and 5G availability.

So if the standard S8 has nearly everything you need but you’re craving a larger screen size, or your heart is set on taking advantage of 5G internet speeds, the S8 Plus could be the tablet for you.

Samsung Tab S8 Ultra

Available from £999, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is the highest in the S8 range, boasting a beautiful OLED display (12.85″ x 8.21″ x 0.22″). Whilst the size is comparable to that of a standard laptop, its lightweight design and responsive S Pen make it an ideal option for drawing and notetaking on the fly.

Whilst the whole S8 range comes equipped with the S Pen, the S8 Plus and S8 Ultra arrive with the newer S Pen designed for ultra-low latency. It’s designed to fit comfortably in the user’s hands, and thanks to the display’s 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, drawing and notetaking feel smooth and accurate with no noticeable input lag.

The 12L update and split-screen capabilities have brought a new lease of life to the Tab S8 Ultra, with the larger screen being ideal for multitasking. The OLED display and performance make gaming on the tablet a realistic possibility, albeit incomparable to a device specifically built for gaming, the size and display certainly help create a TV-like experience. The tablet is also built with ease in mind, with larger storage of up to 512GB and a battery life lasting a good day’s work of around 10 hours (depending on settings).

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 line combines performance and portability in one tablet, ideal for endless entertainment and on-the-go notetaking/drawing. The standard S8 is a great option if you’re needing a smaller, more compact and portable tablet, whereas the S8 Ultra gives you the best overall choice for high performance, stunning screen resolution and realistic notetaking.
